The W Boston unveiled a complete transformation of its welcome area and suites, drawing influence from legendary Boston rebels. While the city is known for its rich history, Ivy League schools and stately institutions, the hotel is revealing its edgier side, one rooted in a legacy of rebellion as much as intellectualism.
The welcome area and suites honor the history through a clever, modern design celebrating Edgar Allen Poe, the Massachusetts Militia and the legendary 70s and 80s Boston rock bands. The hotel created a partnership between the design industry’s brightest rising talent and the brand’s design team.
Subtle acts of design revolution are duly noted throughout the suites, from smoked glass to the faux-charred wood, to the angular shapes and sharp edges inspired by Edgar Allen Poe’s The Raven. The Presidential Extreme Wow, Vice Presidential Wow and Marvelous suites pay homage to the city’s rock n’ roll scene, where the spirit of the city’s dissenting political past set the stage for musicians to break social barriers. The pops of color seen throughout the rooms are reminiscent of stage costumes and leather jackets worn to disrupt the normalcy.
In contrast to the edgy elements of the suites, the rooms also include cozy fabrics found in pillows and throws. The furniture, inspired by the Boston Tea Party, is stark and crisp, with throw pillows reading, “What hath night to do with sleep?”
The Extreme Wow Suite is the hotel’s largest and most coveted with custom furniture including a deconstructed Windsor chair and a chandelier reminiscent of timbers falling from a fire. The dark oak and walnut flooring is native to England and offset by white walls. The smoked glass, inspired by the first battle of the Revolutionary War, continues throughout the suites from faux-charred end tables and gold specs to war murals from Spanish artist Antonio Mora. Mora’s murals are based off inspiration of smoke, fire and The Raven.
“From a historic revolutionary past to a modern rock and roll edge, Boston is a city famous for rebellious thinking,” said Anthony Ingham, global brand leader, W Hotels. “The new welcome area and suites at W Boston not only speak to the history of the city, but also to the disruptive spirit of the W brand. They are as playful as they are posh.”
