Virgin Voyages Adults-Only Cruise

While many cruise lines promote multigenerational cruising and family-friendly adventures, Virgin Voyages steers in the other direction by focusing in on its adults-only cruise plan. In fact, Virgin Voyages says it has no interest in accommodating families with kids. The first ship, set to launch in 2020, will only allow travelers 18 and older in an Adult by Design concept. The announcement was made at a recent ceremony honoring the start of construction for the inaugural ship.

CEO Tom McAlpin said a desire for a more elevated and premium experience — as indicated by feedback from cruisers and travel agents — prompted the decision for an adults-only ship. While adults-only environments are naturally encouraged on higher-end luxury ships and small cruise ships, it is not expressly laid out by age restriction on most lines. Virgin Voyages wanted to create a line of larger ships that caters to adults at a time when most large ships expand family offerings with attractions like waterslides, rock-climbing walls and family suites.

The cruises will aim to provide passengers with relaxation, rejuvenation and fun with exciting nightlife and more.
