A new study released by the U.S. Travel Association reveals international travel numbers have declined. The numbers show international travel dropped a total of 4.2 percent in recent months. In turn, domestic travel has received an uptick and is projected to grow over the course of six months.
This trend is expected to continue in part because of President Trump’s latest policies on international travel, especially when it comes to the international inbound market. Trump announced new travel restrictions in September, under which travelers from Chad, Iran, Syria, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Venezuela and Yemen will face restrictions upon entry to the United States.
This affects inbound international travel, but, as a continued narrative, may also continue to affect U.S. travelers’ desire to travel outside of the states.
Some are calling these effects the “Trump Slump Tourism Drop” as numbers are continuously projected to decline in response to the political climate and the current administration’s policies, but factors such as recent hurricanes, earthquakes and international safety play a role as well.

At our first hotel in Siem Reap, huge coaches constantly pulled up outside the lobby to deposit or receive international tour groups; we departed in very different style, in a 1965 black Mercedes limousine once owned by King Sihanouk. The mundanities of mass tourism were left behind. We progressed through the chaotic Cambodian streets in regal comfort and soon arrived at a solid gate.
