From London and Paris to Chile and Dublin, these destinations celebrate the history of literature with iconic libraries, dedicated museums and preserved homes of renowned authors.

Immerse yourself in the vibrant literary history of Paris, a destination frequently visited by Hemingway, Stein, Orwell, Joyce and others. Visit the renowned Pere-Lachaise Cemetery, where several of the world’s most famous authors are buried, explore museums dedicated to Victor Hugo and Honoré de Balzac, and enjoy a coffee at the sidewalk cafés where writers produced their most momentous works.

Key West offers not only beautiful beaches and world-class resorts but a unique literary history, home to renowned author Ernest Hemingway. Visitors can explore the author’s architecturally stunning Spanish-colonial home where some of his most momentous works were inspired and written. The author’s study has been preserved, including the typewriter that still sits on the writer's desk.

Literature lovers need look no further than Dublin, where the written word is as celebrated as a perfectly-poured pint of Guinness. Visit the Dublin Writer’s Museum, which celebrates the country’s literary heritage beginning with its roots in Celtic folklore, and visit the iconic Trinity College Old Library, home to more than 200,000 books and the illuminated Book of Kells manuscript from the Middle Ages.

Explore the existential world of famous 20th-century writer Franz Kafka in the city that inspired his most momentous works, such as The Metamorphosis, The Trial and The Castle. The Kafka Museum in Prague features a mix of audio-visual installations, manuscripts and photographs, celebrating the author's distinctive literary style.

Visit the quirky home of Chile’s most famous poet Pablo Neruda in Santiago. The home, called La Chascona, is located in Bellavista, overlooking the city's picturesque rooftops. Visitors will find the poet’s preserved personal mementos, secret passages and unique literary inspirations. Santiago is also home to an elaborate mural, celebrating Nobel Prize-winning writer, Gabriela Mistral, located in Cerro Santa Lucia Park.

Home to more than 50 literature-related attractions, England remains one of the most popular literary destinations, home to sites associated with Charles Dickens, Shakespeare, J.R.R Tolkien and others. Visit the 24 book shops in renowned book town, Hay-on-Wye, see the Bard’s First Folio at the British Library or grab a pint in one of many pubs and cafés frequented by England’s most famous authors throughout history.

Named UNESCO’s first City of Literature, Scotland boasts a rich literary history, home to writers including Robert Burns, Sir Walter Scott and Robert Louis Stevenson. The city also served as inspiration for the iconic Sherlock Holmes series.
