If you’re one of those people who fly with Purell, worry about the sniffling passenger next to you and wipe down the tray table, seat and armrest before getting comfortable on your flight, keep reading.
Each individual airline is required to develop its own cleaning protocols, at least in the United States. Other countries may have their own rules and regulations varying from place to place. That said, many carriers require either flight attendants or certified maintenance crew to do some form of cleaning between flights even if it’s just a cursory removal of garbage, spot vacuuming and refreshing of the lavatories. Most carriers schedule a more thorough scrub when crews wipe down seats and tray tables with disinfectants when a plane overnights at an airport. Carriers also schedule deep cleans every month or so to clean seat covers and shampoo the carpets.
For airplanes you can relax in without fearing mysterious stains or errant wads of chewing gum, check out the list of the some of the world’s cleanest aircraft cabins.
The carrier consistently provides travelers with clean cabin interiors. You won’t find dusty newspapers or touchscreens covered in sticky fingerprints on any of its 98 routes and in-flight services include great amenity kits, high-quality meals and hospitable staff who maintain a strong cabin presence.
ANA boasts 5-star service and amenities on its service to 49 Japanese destinations and 32 international destinations. The Boeing’s used for ANA’s international flights feature women’s only lavatories and an Inspiration of Japan cabin concept that includes rainbow-colored mood lighting.
Taiwan-based EVA Air offers 4-star comfort and cleanliness throughout all fare classes. Staff is consistent and efficient, meaning passengers can be sure stains and smudges are taken care of, seats are tidy and tables, carpets and lavatories are clean.
Asia continues to dominate the list with Cathay Pacific’s 5-star service, particularly in its first-class cabin where passengers can expect friendly service and not a speck of dust. Economy-class cabins, too, are clean and washrooms are managed.
Happy clean travels!
