Construction work officially began on The Peninsula Yangon, the luxury brand’s first hotel in Myanmar.
The new hotel will be located in the city centre at the former Myanmar Railway Co. HQ, which will be transformed combining local history with contemporary luxury. The historic building is one of the oldest colonial landmarks in Yangon, creating a truly unique accommodation experience for travellers.
The hotel will form part of a larger development project called Yoma Central, which will include Peninsula-branded luxury residences, two office towers, a second business hotel and a retail area.
“We are excited to move forward with this development and to be part of history as Myanmar becomes increasingly important on the global stage as a business and tourism destination,” said Clement Kwok, managing director and CEO, Hong Kong & Shanghai Hotels, Peninsula’s parent company.
