A holiday projected to generate $5.9 billion in spending in the United States, St. Patrick’s Day traces its roots to the Northeast, despite its Irish traditions.
WalletHub compared 200 of the largest U.S. cities to discover which offer the best St. Patty’s Day experiences for travelers. The study measured 17 metrics, from Irish pubs and restaurants per capita to the weather forecast.
The top contender? Chicago, followed by Boston, Philadelphia, Buffalo and New York City to round out the Top 5. However, Chicago didn’t top all of the charts in every single category the cities were judged on.
Pittsburgh won for highest percentage of Irish population, while New York City boasted most Irish pubs and restaurants per capita. Savannah offers the most St. Patrick’s Day parties and festivals per capita and Orlando, the lowest average price for a ticket to parties and festivals. The lowest average St. Patty’s beer prices are in Oklahoma City, while the fewest DUI-related fatalities per capita over the holiday are reported in New York City. The best holiday weather is found in Glendale, Ariz.
