South African Airways is resuming non-stop flights between Johannesburg, South Africa, and New York, March 7, reducing the overall travel time on the route by 90 minutes. South Africa’s national flag carrier does operate the route daily on a year-round basis, but the northbound flight has been temporarily making a one-hour refueling stop in Dakar, Senegal.
The non-stop flights are timed to connect in Johannesburg with SAA’s extensive route network to more than 55 destinations throughout South Africa, and in New York to connect to more than 35 cities in the United States and Canada with codeshare partners JetBlue Airways, United Airlines and Air Canada.
Flights between New York City and Johannesburg are operated on Airbus A340-600 aircraft, with 42 full-flat seats in Premium Business Class. Customers enjoy loads of on-demand entertainment options, freshly prepared meals and award-winning South African wines. SAA also operates service to and from South Africa and Washington, D.C.

I am looking out at Vietnam’s largest city from the country’s tallest building. Sitting in a comfortable chair facing the floor-to-ceiling window, I have taken in the view in daylight and darkness at dusk and dawn. It’s ever-changing and always hypnotic.
