A recent survey conducted by SafariBookings.com, an online safari booking tool, asked more than 400 safari operators how they felt about the visiting tourists they received each year, asking them to rate travelers grouped by their country of origin on various aspects of travel, such as punctuality, treatment of staff and more.
The survey found that, overall, Americans were highly favored, with more than 85 percent of tour operators rating their American visitors as pleasant or very pleasant to host and work with. This, they said, was due to Americans’ generous tips and friendliness. On the other end of the spectrum were safari tourists from Italy, with about one-fifth of the operators admitting Italian tourists were often rude to staff, frequently late and likely to ignore safari guide instructions.
Other nationalities were found to be best or worst in different areas the safari operators were surveyed on. Results indicated travelers hailing from the Netherlands were the least likely to tip, British tourists were the most difficult to please overall and German tourists were the most punctual. Countries in which English is a native language scored much higher than those in which it is not, with safari operators in East Africa preferring Americans and operators in South Africa preferring Brits and Canadians.
