The Head of the Charles Regatta, the world’s largest rowing competition, marks its 50th anniversary this year. More than 10,000 athletes from around the globe are set to compete in this year’s event (Oct. 18–19), while in excess of 400,000 spectators are expected to line the banks of Boston’s Charles River.
Fans and spectators flock to the riverbanks every year for the two-day event as rowers compete in 61 powerful races. This year’s event includes a gala 50th anniversary celebration at Buckingham Browne & Nichols School on the evening of Oct. 18. Other events and activities tied to the celebration include family-friendly offerings, a rowing and fitness expo and food vendors.
The Head Of The Charles Regatta is free and open to the public. Races start Boston University’s DeWolfe Boathouse (619 Memorial Drive, Cambridge, Mass.) and finish at Artesani Park (1255 Soldiers Field Road, Boston, Mass.).
