Singapore Airlines unveiled its new premium economy cabin, set to launch this August on the carrier’s route between Singapore and Sydney.
Following a two-year development programme, the new cabin features were revealed this month. Each leather seat offers a width of either 47 or 49.5 centimetres, depending on aircraft type, with in-flight entertainment HD screen, an in-seat power socket, two USB ports and extra storage space.
Passengers flying SIA’s new premium economy cabins will enjoy a variety of perks, including a greater choice of food and beverage options, such as pre-selected meals, and 35 kilograms of checked baggage. At the airport, travelers will be offered priority check-in and baggage handling services. Members of the airline’s frequent-flyer loyalty programme will receive 10 per cent more KrisFlyer miles.
“Many of our customers have been asking for a premium economy offering and we are confident that what we are delivering will exceed their expectations,” said Mak Swee Wah, executive vice president of commercial, SIA. “The new cabin product is the culmination of two years of work, which included extensive research and focus group studies involving customers and our design partners.
“Our premium economy class will provide customers more comfort and in-flight amenities. Complemented by the exceptional service that Singapore Airlines is so well known for, the new cabin class will be a great new way to fly.”
SIA plans to roll out its new premium economy cabins across 19 Airbus A3802s and 19 Boeing 777-300ERs as well as the airline’s first 20 Airbus A350s, entering service next year.
The new class will launch Aug. 9 on its Singapore (SIN)–Sydney (SYD) route before being introduced to Beijing (PEK), Delhi (DEL), Hong Kong (HKG), Frankfurt (FRA), London (LHR), Mumbai (BOM), New York (JFK), Shanghai (PVG), Tokyo (NRT) and Zürich (ZRH).
