MGM National Harbor is scheduled to open in the latter half of 2016 near Washington, D.C. The 308-room resort and casino recently announced its efforts to create a culinary destination within the resort, partnering with well-known names to deliver dining experiences unlike any other.
“In recent years, the Capital Region has become a thriving food destination with many of the best chefs in the world contributing to our booming restaurant scene,” said Bill Boasberg, general manager, MGM National Harbor. “We have selected incredible talent to create an unparalleled dining experience at our resort and we are excited to welcome these new concepts and chefs into our company’s award-winning culinary portfolio.”
Chef José Andrés will be spearheading a seafood-inspired restaurant with views of the Potomac, that will include sushi and tempura bars set among dramatic décor. Andrés has been celebrated as one of Time’s 100 Most Influential People and has been the recipient of several awards from the James Beard Foundation, Bon Appétit and Condé Nast Traveler, among others.
Chef Marcus Samuelsson, another huge name in the restaurant business, will be bringing his five-time James Beard Award-winning talents to the resort with classic and coastal dishes at a restaurant offering two bars and an open concept. His multiple successful restaurants, bestselling books and appearance on Bravo’s Top Chef Masters has made Samuelsson an easy-to-recognize face in the culinary world.
The last additions to MGM National Harbor’s lineup are brothers Bryan and Michael Voltaggio, opening their first restaurant together in their home state of Maryland — a contemporary steakhouse. The menu will feature lots of regional flavors and nostalgic inspiration. The two brothers are known for their appearances on Top Chef, , the Cooking Channel, Food Network and Travel Channel.

Mar 28, 2024Cruise Lines Elevate the Onboard Fine-Dining Experience
It’s been a long time since the food on cruise ships resembled the bland, uninspired fare that gave onboard dining a bad name. These days, cruise passengers can look forward to menus created by Michelin-starred chefs made with top-quality ingredients served in stunning spaces. Choices abound as well. In addition to elegant main dining rooms, cruise ships have created a huge array of specialty restaurants that focus not only on perfectly executed traditional European and North American dishes but flavors and experiences from around the globe as well. In fact, meals served aboard cruise vessels have gotten so good, they’re drawing passengers onto ships: According to a recent report by luxury travel planning network Virtuoso, advisors report after Europe (specifically Italy and France), the No. 2 dining destination for travelers is aboard an ocean or river cruise. “This shows how cruise lines have really stepped up their culinary game, with consulting chefs and new restaurants and making that a focal point,” said Misty Belles, vice president, Global Public Relations, Virtuoso.
