Newly opened last month, the star-shaped Bastogne War Museum in Bastogne, Belgium acts as a time machine with glimpses into the Battle of the Bulge. The interactive exhibition includes a collection of personal testimonies, a collection of 400-plus objects and historic artifacts, stunning scenography, and multi-sensory experiences delivered via 3D technology. The displays, which include tanks and artifacts from the Ardennes offensive, are designed to track the causes of World War II, seminal events during the conflict and enduring consequences. Events are recounted through the eyes of a local teacher and teenager who lived through the battle, and two soldiers: one American and one German.
Later this year, a special exhibitions, Texas Aggies Go To War, opens to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge on Dec. 13, 2014. The exhibit recounts the experiences and personal lives of five men before, during and after the war. Located adjacent to the Mardasson Memorial — designed by architect Georges Dedoyard — the museum includes a gift shop and café with patio. Audio guides in English, French, Dutch and German are available.
