Mattress maker Simba Sleep unveiled the world’s most advanced airline seat. The prototype Air-Hybrid seat features a fusion of 2,500 conical pocket springs, responsive memory foam and an orange light therapy system, providing the ultimate comfort, support and heat regulation.

The seat mechanism features gentle automatic adjustments which recline the seat to a zero g position that closely simulate weightlessness. The seat eases pressure on the back and spine while dissolving strain from the extremities.

The seats were inspired by a conversation with footballer Gareth Bale about red-eye flights, resulting in the creation of a technologically advanced in-flight sleep experience — combatting sleep at 36,000 feet. The seats will use sensors, memory foam and gyroscopic movement to ensure the best chance of sleep.

The seat is engineered to identify and respond to nuanced body movements using a range of tech to monitor noise, temperature, light, humidity and air particles — and respond accordingly. Body temperature is kept at 65˚F — the optimum level for a snooze.

While currently at the prototype stage, Simba Sleep says since the response is so positive, conversations with commercial and private airlines have already begun.

“We’ve also started to look at how our technology can be adapted for other modes of transport including trains,” said James Cox, co-founder, Simba Sleep.
