Macau, Sydney and Hong Kong are the top cities with the most expensive hotel rates in the Asia Pacific region, according to the HRS Hotel Price Radar, based on data collected from hotel bookings made through the HRS hotel portal over the first three months of this year.

Macau emerges as the destination with the highest rates, with an average rate of SGD 269, marking an increase of 64 per cent from the same period last year. Sydney ranked second, averaging SGD 243, while Hong Kong was third, following a 20 per cent increase in rates to SGD 242. Singapore and Seoul rounded out the top five, averaging SGD 233 and SGD 157, respectively.

Macau’s increase of 64 per cent was the highest boost of any Asia Pacific destination, attributed to the active development of its MICE (meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions) and business events industry as well as the availability of high-end venues.

“Asia Pacific continues to draw visitors from across the world, and as this quarter’s HRS Hotel Price Radar shows, the business tourism segment in particular is growing strong,” said Todd Arthur, managing director for Asia Pacific, HRS.

Kuala Lumpur, Bengaluru and New Delhi are at the bottom of the scale with the lowest hotel rates in the region, averaging SGD 96, SGD 86 and SGD 79, respectively.
