Korean Air is enacting new fees to reduce the number of empty seats. All passengers who do not provide advance notice of a missed flight are required to pay a no-show fee. Fees are applicable for all tickets purchased from Oct. 1, and apply to any passenger who does not arrive prior to the scheduled departure time or does not board a flight after check-in. The no-show fee for flights to and from North America, Latin America, Europe, Oceania and all other long-haul routes is USD120. The no-show fee on flights to and from Southeast and Southwest Asia on all routes not classified as long haul is USD70. The no-show fee on flights between Korea and Japan or China, and between Japan and China is USD50. No-show fees on domestic Korean flights are KRW8,000. No-show fees also apply to award tickets. Passengers flying on an international award ticket who fail to show up for their flight face a penalty of a 5,000- to 12,000-mile deduction from their award account. Passengers using domestic award tickets who fail to show up for their flight face a penalty of a 500-mile deduction. The no-show fee is waived for infants under 2 years of age. Previously, the no-show fees only extended to domestic flights.
