Global Traveler hosted its 12th annual GT Tested Reader Survey awards reception Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2015, at The Peninsula Beverly Hills, marking the fifth consecutive year the event has been held at luxury hotel, named Best Individual Hotel in the United States in this year’s survey. In celebration, the event moved to the hotel’s rooftop, offering views of the city.
More than 200 guests gathered to congratulate the respected winners on their achievements. Guest of honor Cat Cora appeared on behalf of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Cora is a celebrity chef and restaurateur, and her new book, Cooking As Fast As I Can, is a New York Times bestseller.
Cora urged attendees to donate travel-related prizes to Global Traveler’s charity auction, benefitting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The auction kicks off March 1. Founded in 1949 and headquartered in White Plains, N.Y., LLS is the world’s largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patient services. Award winners traveled from around the world to accept accolades on behalf of their companies. Nearly 50 awards were presented at the event. Airbus, the lead sponsor, raffled a timepiece, a scale model of an Airbus A380 (voted Best Aircraft Type in this year’s survey) and a trip for two, with business-class airfare, to Toulouse, France. China Airlines, also a sponsor, raffled five bottles of Dom Perignon.
In addition to the GT Tested Reader Survey awards and the Wines on the Wing winners, the 2015 Airline of the Year, Turkish Airlines, and Hotel of the Year, The Ritz-Carlton, winners were honored.

About the Survey
Global Traveler conducted an open-ended survey of its readers to determine the best in more than 80 travel-related categories. The survey was conducted from Jan. 1, 2015, to Aug. 31, 2015. Questionnaires were available in subscriber copies of the magazine, online at globaltravelerusa.com/awards-survey-ballot and through direct mail and email. Only questionnaires with more than 50 percent of the questions answered were considered. An outside accounting firm, Citrin Cooperman LLP, tabulated the results. Employees of the magazine and members of the travel industry were barred from participation.

Mar 28, 2024Cruise Lines Elevate the Onboard Fine-Dining Experience
It’s been a long time since the food on cruise ships resembled the bland, uninspired fare that gave onboard dining a bad name. These days, cruise passengers can look forward to menus created by Michelin-starred chefs made with top-quality ingredients served in stunning spaces. Choices abound as well. In addition to elegant main dining rooms, cruise ships have created a huge array of specialty restaurants that focus not only on perfectly executed traditional European and North American dishes but flavors and experiences from around the globe as well. In fact, meals served aboard cruise vessels have gotten so good, they’re drawing passengers onto ships: According to a recent report by luxury travel planning network Virtuoso, advisors report after Europe (specifically Italy and France), the No. 2 dining destination for travelers is aboard an ocean or river cruise. “This shows how cruise lines have really stepped up their culinary game, with consulting chefs and new restaurants and making that a focal point,” said Misty Belles, vice president, Global Public Relations, Virtuoso.
