Much of what still gets published about using taxis in Mexico City is outdated by a decade or two. Yes, you should have someone call a “radio taxi” when that’s an option or grab one from your hotel. There’s very little crime committed by taxi drivers now, though, so flagging one down in daylight hours if you’re in a hurry is no longer much of a risk. It’s something local expatriate businesspeople do every day. The old, run-down Volkswagen Beetle taxis have been forced off the road, and you won’t see an unlicensed taxi anywhere in the business or tourist districts. Taxis from the airport use a zoned, prepaid ticket system inside both terminals.
