The grandeur of Victoria Falls is a fitting setting for the new Nut House, part of Zambia’s romantic eco-luxe Tongabezi lodge. South African designer Abi James of Soul Design went straight to African artists and artisans for furnishings and special touches. The result: the chalet’s soothing color palette is enhanced with handmade recycled glass chandeliers, lampshades made from baobab string African raffia, original mud cloth floor coverings, Zambian leather cushions and Indigo fabrics from Mali.
Other Nut House features include an antique studded entryway door from Zanzibar, along with original works by Zimbabwean artist Soo Piercy and South African paper artist Keri Muller. Outside on the patio, slip into the splash pool — or dine leisurely on the chalet’s private terrace overlooking the Zambezi River. Tired of being pampered? Let your valet arrange for an exhilarating boat trip to Livingston Island, or a picnic outing on Sindabezi, the resort’s own private island.

The mundanities of mass tourism were left behind. We progressed through the chaotic Cambodian streets in regal comfort and soon arrived at a solid gate.
