Etihad Airways and Alitalia expanded their codeshare agreement to offer passengers more options. Under the terms of the new agreement, Etihad will place its flight code on Alitalia’s services between Abu Dhabi (AUH) and both Milan (MXP) and Venice (VCE). The Italian carrier plans to launch both new routes March 29, 2015 and offer the services daily.
The announcement of the new codeshare flights follows the European Union’s recent approval of Etihad’s plans to acquire a 49 percent stake in Alitalia. The airlines plan to complete the transaction by the end of the year. Both carriers already codeshare on flights between Abu Dhabi and Rome (FCO). Etihad plans to codeshare on 15 of Alitalia’s routes from Rome next year pending government approval.
