Last month, South Florida officially became Emirates’ 11th U.S. destination with a new daily service between Dubai (DXB) and Fort Lauderdale (FLL).
In an interview with Travel Weekly, Matthias Schmid, vice president, Emirates, talked about the importance of the destination for the airline.
One of the largest factors for the new Fort Lauderdale service is the access to the cruise industry, followed by increased opportunities for partnership with JetBlue.
Currently, Fort Lauderdale is the third-largest focus city for JetBlue, where it operates 13 international routes. The new service marks the beginning of 32 new Emirates/JetBlue codeshare routes to U.S. domestic destinations. Per the airlines’ current interline agreement, passengers from the Caribbean can book a fare on Emirates through Fort Lauderdale to Emirates’ expansive world network.
