The first Conrad hotel in Fujian province opened its doors. The Conrad Xiamen, located on the southwestern coast of the island, is the sixth Conrad property in China. “Conrad Xiamen is an excellent addition to our China portfolio. It underscores our commitment to growing our presence across the top destinations of this market and our confidence in the increasing demand for luxury accommodations from a new generation of smart luxury travellers,” said Bruce McKenzie, senior vice president of operations, greater China & Mongolia, Hilton International. The Conrad Xiamen is located on 17 floors of the Shimao Straits Tower, a business and leisure destination in Siming, with views of Gulangyu Island. Guests at Conrad Xiamen have direct access to the tower’s offerings, including a mall, cinema, shopping and dining. The property offers 241 guestrooms and suites, each with floor-to-ceiling windows, walk-in wardrobes, flat-screen televisions, hydrotherapy rain showers and more. On the 37th floor is the 24-hour health club and fitness centre, with access to personal trainers. The indoor pool boasts views of the ocean, and the fitness centre’s Jacuzzi and spa make the perfect places to relax. Eight meeting rooms hold up to more than 200 people, and a large ballroom and foyer can accommodate sea-view events. Guests choose from five dining options. Coast Bar & Grill is the highest bar in the city, serving up a menu of fresh seafood. Lucheng offers Cantonese and Fujian cuisine, with private rooms for corporate dining or events. Pier 38 is the all-day buffet, and Plush serves tea and drinks, while French Kiss prepares Western meals and Parisian-style pastries. “We are delighted with the debut of our Conrad Hotel & Resorts brand in Fujian. Conrad Xiamen is a great flagship hotel that epitomizes the luxurious facilities and intuitive service that will provide our guests with inspired experiences and define a new standard for luxury in Xiamen,” said John Vanderslice, global head, Conrad Hotels & Resorts.

In front of an audience of 30,000 Kingdom of Bhutan residents and officials, His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck presented his vision for a new economic hub in Bhutan. Located between India to the south and China to the north, Bhutan is one of the most beautiful destinations in the world. Bhutan came late to global tourism. It opened its borders to international visitors in 1974 and, while tourism definitely increased, residents are enduring “light” rush-hour traffic in Thimphu, its capital city, as the only Asian capital without traffic lights.
