Cathay Pacific now allows upgrade bidding with its new system, Upgrade Bid. The launch follows a survey circulated to Cathay Pacific Insights members in February.
The process is available to passengers who purchased premium-economy or economy-class tickets on select Cathay Pacific and Cathay Dragon routes. It allows them to bid on an upgrade to a business-class seat.
Customers on valid flights who opt to receive promotions from the airline will receive an email message seven days before the flight inviting them to bid. Passengers can check whether an upgrade is available by logging on to the Upgrade Bid site.
The service will be offered first on select flights between Hong Kong (HKG) and Adelaide (ADL), Amsterdam (AMS), Bangkok (BKK), Brisbane (BNE), Cebu (CEB), Chiang Mai (CNX), Chicago (ORD), Colombo (CMB), Denpasar (DPS), Dubai (DX B), Kathmandu (KTM), Rome (FCO) and Seoul (ICM, GMP), with additional routes set to join over the next few months. Routes to China and India are not open to the bidding for now.
Passengers on redemption bookings in fare classes G, Z, U, T and X cannot participate, even on eligible flights. Winning bids are confirmed 48 hours before departure, and winners are notified by email.
