Carnival Cruise Line joined forces with Operation Homefront to host the world’s first social media-powered barbecue for troops at the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego.
Military personnel were treated to a summertime feast with burger buns lasered with heartfelt messages of thanks to service members, using a unique culinary laser printer. Carnival encouraged Americans to send their appreciation by posting messages of gratitude via social media using the hashtag #ThankYouBurger. The messages were transmitted to the grill, laser printed onto burger buns and served to troops.
“We wanted to create a platform for Americans looking to connect with the military and show our gratitude for their service during the July 4th holiday,” said William Burke, chief maritime officer, Carnival. “We all want the troops to know how grateful we — and our country — are for protecting our freedom and this unique social media-powered barbecue is a fantastic way to show our appreciation.”
Carnival donated $25,000 to Operation Homefront to help build strong, stable and secure military families. The festivities are part of the cruise line’s continued commitment to Operation Homefront which saw the cruise line host hundreds of military families abroad the newest ship, Carnival Vista, last year.
