British Airways Will Slice Legroom on Some Short-Haul Flights

There’s good news and bad news out of British Airways: The carrier will slice legroom, but the move will only apply to a few, mercifully short flights.

The airline will reduce legroom on European flights in an attempt to squeeze more passengers on its Airbus A320 and A321 planes. The plan will add two extra rows —totaling 12 seats — by cutting legroom by one inch. That will put legroom at 29 inches, the same as Easyjet, but less than Ryanair.

The airline said the move will help keep fares cheap.

“From next year we’re making a small increase to the number of seats on our A320 and A321 fleet so we can keep fares low,” a BA spokesperson told The Daily Mail. “Customers fly with us because we offer quality and value in all areas.”

The changes will likely take place next year on short-haul flights out of Gatwick (LGW) and Heathrow (LHR). The move comes on the heels of British Airway’s recent decision to stop serving complimentary food and drink on short-haul economy flights.
