Tributosaurus Play Tribute to the Beatles

by John Wroblewski

Jan 4, 2017

Recently, I saw Tributosaurus — one of my favorite musical acts — perform as the Beatles — one of my favorite bands — at the Copernicus Center — one of my favorite venues. These three favorites came together for a great night of music.

The Gateway Theater opened in 1930 on the northwest side of Chicago. Billed as “the most acoustically perfect theatre in the world,” the Gateway did not disappoint. Attempting to capitalize on the new era of “talkies” — movies with sound — the builders made acoustics a priority. Eighty years and a few changes later, the Kobelinski Theater inside of the Copernicus Center still maintains fantastic acoustics along with an understated elegance.

Tributosaurus was formed in 2002 and is the ultimate cover band. Over the years, it has performed as over 120 different musical acts through exact recreations of the original music. Tributo has delighted fans with its chameleon-like performances. Chris Neville, Curt Morrison, Dan Leali, Jon Paul and Matt Spiegel are the fab five of Tributosaurus.

On this particular night, they performed as the Beatles playing the “Red” album (Beatles 1962–66). As Tributo sailed through the classics, I had a whole new appreciation for them and the Beatles, too. Some people say the Beatles are overrated; I say they are underrated.

The Copernicus Center is a fantastic venue with high ceilings, marble and overall grandeur. There is not a bad seat in the house, and the sound is wonderful.

It was the perfect way to end 2016; I look forward to new musical recreations from Tributo in 2017.
