Tilt For Unique Views Of Chicago

May 16, 2014

Chicago is one of my favorite cities, and now there’s a whole new way to experience the Windy City. Opened last weekend, TILT at 360 CHICAGO, formerly John Hancock Observatory, offers views of the city at a new angle. TILT is an enclosed glass and steel moveable platform that holds eight visitors at a time. Once guests are safely inside, the platform tilts outward, generating downward-facing views of Chicago — from 1,000 feet above the ground! This is probably not an attraction for the faint of heart or those afraid of heights, but it is certainly an interesting and new way to take in a cityscape. On its opening weekend, more than 4,000 guests experienced the attractions; TILT is open 14 hours a day, allowing eight visitors at a time. The rate is $5 per experience plus the price of general admission to the observatory. 360 CHICAGO is located on Michigan Avenue, overlooking Chicago’s famed Magnificent Mile. The building’s 360-degree views span four states. While I’m not usually afraid of heights, I think leaning against glass at 1,000 feet over the city might make me a bit nervous; but I’d definitely try this unique viewing experience. There are never too many ways to take in a city you love, and it’s a great way for first-time travelers to acquaint themselves with the city. What do you think, will you give this one-of-a-kind attraction a try? — Kim Krol, managing editor

Meet 5 Women Shaping the Brixen/South Tyrol Travel Experience

Although a destination’s terrain, cuisine and cultural attributes always draw travelers in, it is often the people they meet that make the trip an enduring memory rather than a box to be checked off. It’s a job responsibility that people working around the Plose and adjoining town of Brixen (in Italy’s Trentino-Alto Adige region) take seriously. This is even more true for five women dedicated to introducing visitors to new aspects of the time-honored ski, leisure and hiking mountain destination in the Dolomites.
