Poconos Getaway
This year for St. Patrick's Day weekend, my mom decided to take the whole crew to Pennsylvania’s Poconos for a weekend away. Other than a nice escape from the city, St. Patrick’s Day is extra special for our group as we celebrate my brother’s “gotcha day.” This year marked 31 years since my mom brought him home from Colombia.
Visiting Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos
It’s weird to think, as a Floridian, I had never been on a cruise or to the Caribbean. But I can finally say I’ve done both thanks to a recent cruise on Holland America Line. Seeing crystal-clear waters from photos and videos hardly does a destination justice when you actually get to dip your toes into the warm waters and soft sands.
Florida’s Big Cats
It’s been four years, so I think it’s safe to admit I watched Tiger King on Netflix during the pandemic. We were all in an uncertain time, and finding something on TV even more bizarre than a global shutdown seemed like an outlet of necessity.
A Few Days in Florida
Recently I went to Florida with my friends Taylor, Marissa and Rachel for a little getaway as well to see the Dancing with the Stars tour. We could have gone to see the tour in a closer destination, but our favorite contestant, Harry Jowsey, from the previous season, was only going to the shows in other states, so we chose Florida.
Brunch and Books
The Morris restaurant in Washington Square recently started serving brunch on Sundays, and last weekend my girlfriend, Brena, and I met up with our friends to check it out (after seeing a TikTok about it, because where else do you source restaurant recommendations?).
Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library
I can't remember a time when books and reading weren't a big part of my life. In my mind's eye I can still clearly see storybooks that were part of our family collection, and trips to the local library every Saturday morning with my dad were highlights of my week. I remember how I nearly burst with pride upon signing and receiving my first library card, and the frustration I felt at being limited to just five books at check-out time. I liked playing "school" with my younger siblings, which mostly involved me sitting in front of my "class" and reading picture books to them. I believe I can claim teaching my younger sister Julie to read before she started school, although I suspect my teaching methods may have been closer to brow-beating than gently guided instruction.
More Than Basketball Games
I attend a lot of Loyola University women's basketball games. Two recent game experiences transcended basketball, though.
Double Date Night in Philly
My husband, sister-in-law, brother-in-law and I recently enjoyed a double date night out in Philadelphia.

Mar 28, 2024Cruise Lines Elevate the Onboard Fine-Dining Experience
It’s been a long time since the food on cruise ships resembled the bland, uninspired fare that gave onboard dining a bad name. These days, cruise passengers can look forward to menus created by Michelin-starred chefs made with top-quality ingredients served in stunning spaces. Choices abound as well. In addition to elegant main dining rooms, cruise ships have created a huge array of specialty restaurants that focus not only on perfectly executed traditional European and North American dishes but flavors and experiences from around the globe as well. In fact, meals served aboard cruise vessels have gotten so good, they’re drawing passengers onto ships: According to a recent report by luxury travel planning network Virtuoso, advisors report after Europe (specifically Italy and France), the No. 2 dining destination for travelers is aboard an ocean or river cruise. “This shows how cruise lines have really stepped up their culinary game, with consulting chefs and new restaurants and making that a focal point,” said Misty Belles, vice president, Global Public Relations, Virtuoso.
