For New Year’s Eve this year, my husband and I met friends for dinner at On Point Bistro in Philadelphia’s Point Breeze neighborhood. The new BYOB restaurant offered two dinner seatings for the holiday in its cozy dining room, with a three-course pre-fixe menu.
We arrived right at 9 p.m. for our seating, and the place was packed! The hostess directed us to our seats, and we were browsing the menu in no time. The menu offered a nice variety, and I had trouble selecting each dish. I eventually decided on the salmon crostini to start. The smoky chopped salmon was placed atop two crisp crostini and topped with dill, onion and horseradish. It was a hearty yet light start to the meal. In addition to the three courses, an add-on gnocchi dish was available for $10. My husband and I decided to order one to split, and I’m glad we did — it was delicious. The dense gnocchi were accompanied with truffle and asparagus in a rich cream sauce. We devoured every bite. For my main course, I enjoyed grilled lamb chops. The preparation provided a full, smoky flavor to the meat. Creamy grits and Brussels sprouts were on the side. Each diner was served a dessert trio of biscotti, pistachio marshmallow and chocolate rugelach. While each bite was delicious, the rugelach was my favorite. Overall, it was a standout meal and a memorable New Year’s Eve.
The restaurant is currently open for brunch Tuesday–Sunday and dinner Tuesday–Saturday. After my delightful dinner experience, I’m looking forward to trying brunch at the promising restaurant soon.
