On a recent trip to Ireland, I visited the Cliffs of Moher in County Clare. The cliffs are Ireland’s most visited natural attraction, with about 1 million visitors annually. From the cliffs, which stretch about five miles along the Wild Atlantic Way, you can see some of Ireland’s lush landscape on a clear day, including the Aran Islands and the Maum Turk Mountains. Luckily, the weather was perfect during my visit. The morning fog lifted, and I arrived at the cliffs to sunny and breezy weather. I wandered up towards O’Brien’s Tower first and then walked towards the opposite side of the cliffs to get a full view of the coast. The views are absolutely breathtaking. I was very lucky to go on such a beautiful day. There are many things to do at the cliffs besides wander at your own leisure. Explore the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Experience at the foot of the cliffs to tour the interactive exhibits and displays about the history of the cliffs. Stop by the gift shop or one of the several stores located next to the Visitor Center to purchase souvenirs. Many seabirds nest along the cliffs — perfect for birdwatchers. More than 20 species can be seen, including puffins, razorbills, peregrine falcons and choughs. If you prefer a guided tour, you will need to book in advance. July and August are the busiest months for visitors, with most people stopping by on the weekends. Event space is available for weddings or lunch/dinner receptions.
