In Chicago we are coming up on one of my favorite events of the year: Chicago Restaurant Week runs Jan. 26–Feb, 8, which I realize is actually two weeks, but the longer the better for this dining experience.
The 11th annual culinary celebration features special, fixed-price menus for lunch, brunch and dinner. My friends and I order many entrées to share.
Over the years, Chicago Restaurant Week has grown in many ways. This year it extends to more areas, more restaurants and more choices than ever. There are more than 350 participating restaurants all over Chicago and the neighboring suburbs.
I made a list of my choices, which covers several cuisines. Enso’s is on the near northwest side of Chicago. Takoyaki (octopus croquettes), multiple varieties of Maki, ceviche and spring rolls are my main targets.
Devon Seafood Grill, just north of downtown, will satisfy my seafood hunger with maple plank salmon, crab cakes, Ahi tuna and a seafood mixed grill. We’ll finish the meal with the highly rated chocolate lava cake.
I’ll continue the seafood theme at Basil’s, in Aurora, west of Chicago. I’m looking forward to its crab cake fettuccini, Mediterranean sea bass, famous salmon and saganaki.
My friends are making their choices, and we will visit about 15 total restaurants. I might have to spend some extra time in the gym, but it will be well worth it.
