Last Saturday the weather was finally warm(er) and made for a perfect day to be out and about in New York City. Since I live only a few blocks away from the Williamsburg Bridge, some friends and I decided to venture into Brooklyn for the day. It happened to be the opening weekend for Smorgasburg, an outdoor food flea market. I never experienced a food event quite like this. With more than 75 food vendors featuring countless cuisines, deciding what to eat was pretty difficult. We walked through the entire market first to review our options. I decided on a delicious Bossa Nova chicken burger, topped with mozzarella cheese and roasted red pepper aioli. To top it off, they even served the burgers with a classic side of crispy tater tots. Yum! The flea market is held at the East River State Park on the waterfront in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, so while enjoying our food, we even had a wonderful view of the water and the New York City skyline.

As spring and summer approach, I plan to take several trips back to the Smorgasburg. The food flea market stays open until November, which means I have plenty of time to try out a variety of the cuisines offered. Next Smorgasburg trip, I am thinking it will be a toss-up between Mighty Quinn’s BBQ pulled pork sandwich and the Cemita Mexican sandwich (cemita is Spanish for “big mac”). Whichever I choose to eat, I think it will be in my best interest to run back to Manhattan rather than walk!
