Last weekend my boyfriend and I took a short overnight getaway to see Jerry Seinfeld perform at the Borgata in Atlantic City, N.J. Upon arrival, we checked into our hotel — we stayed at the Trump Taj Mahal. We had a few hours before we needed to be at the Borgata, so we decided to try our luck at the blackjack table. After a few lucky hands, we made our way over to the show. 

Seinfeld performed in the Event Center — a venue with 30,000 square feet of space for a range of shows including musical acts and wrestling. Our seats were close. Since the space can accommodate a variety of events, the chairs needed to be easily removable and were slightly uncomfortable. The venue was packed. We never saw Seinfeld live before, so it was fun to see how great his performance was in person. He began with very typical “What is the deal with…” material, then talked about recent technology and his family. We were both surprised to hear he has three children. All in all, it was a very funny set by an expert comedian.

After the show, we had reservations at Izakaya. Very hungry, we ordered several dishes to split. Everything was divine. Standouts included the soup dumplings with chicken, scallion and sesame; grilled octopus with miso, tomato jam and arugula; and the yellowtail tataki sushi. I can’t wait to return to sample more of the modern Japanese cuisine.

Atlantic City is a short drive from where I live, making it perfect for a quick change of scenery.
