American Airlines plans to discontinue its daily service between Philadelphia (PHL) and Tel Aviv (TLV) next year due to low demand and loss of profit. According to the carrier, over six years of operating the route, the flight has never made any money and has lost more than $20 million this year alone.
With the cancelation on Jan. 5, 2016, the world’s largest airline will no longer fly to Israel. Customers can still access Tel Aviv through America’s joint business partner British Airways via London (LHR) or through its codeshare partnership with EL AL Israel Airlines via European gateways such as London, Paris (CDG), Madrid (MAD) and Frankfurt (FRA).
“We want to give every route the chance to succeed, and we gave it a fair shot, but at a certain point, no matter how much we want to serve a particular route, we have to make the right decision for our business,” the carrier said in a statement.
