Starting April 10, Alitalia will follow a growing number of airlines offering lower fares for passengers boarding flights with only carry-on bags.
These so-called Hand Baggage Only or “light” fares will be offered to passengers flying between Italy and the United States and Canada. Alitalia follows Air France and KLM in issuing lower fares.
Alitalia’s HBO fares are now similar to those offered by low-cost carrier Norwegian Air, which recently expanded into the Italian market. Other airlines offering HBO fares include Aer Lingus, TAP Air Portugal, Scandinavian Airlines, Lufthansa and Iceland’s WOW air.
